How is paint transforming people’s lives?

Colour can bring communities together. Our Let’s Colour projects have helped bring about positive change in underprivileged neighbourhoods.

As part of our global commitment to building sustainable communities, our teams of volunteers are showing how a splash of colour can positively impact people’s lives.

Renovating a city

Renovating one of the most rundown neighbourhoods of São Paulo, Brazil.
Urban art in São Paulo

One of the most rundown neighbourhoods of São Paulo, Brazil was in much need of renovation. Instagrafite, a digital magazine dedicated to showcasing Brazil’s best urban art, handpicked 17 artists from 11 nationalities to paint 40-metre tall murals onto high-rise buildings in the historic centre.

The project brought together a mix of international talent to create artworks based on the history of street art, and used 4,824 litres of paint. The event uplifted the neighbourhood, giving the tired buildings a bold new look and marked one of the biggest creative collaborations the city has ever seen.

Reinvigorating a community

Transforming Greystoke Swimming Pool with a Tarzan-inspired jungle scene.
Community renewal at Greystoke Swimming Pool

The Greystoke Swimming Pool near the Lake District in the UK has been open since 1973 and is run by an enthusiastic team of helpers. As the heart of the local community, the heated outdoor pool provides a place to exercise and socialise for residents. But the building that houses the café and changing rooms was in desperate need of decorating. So, we enlisted the creative talent of local art student Amelia Butcher to come up with a fresh and fun design.

The result? A jungle scene inspired by Tarzan, with gorgeous greens ranging from bright limes to dark olives, and even a peek-a-boo tiger and tropical parrot to complete the picture. The mural brings renewed cheer to a place that means so much to the town.

Turning creativity into a business

We set up the Dulux Painter Academy to help ambitious young painters start their own businesses.
Dulux Painter Academy, Jakarta, Indonesia

In Jakarta, Indonesia, we set up the Dulux Painter Academy to help ambitious young painters start their own businesses. We donated over 370 litres of paint for the two-day workshop, which was developed to teach members of the Dulux contractors’ community about colours, techniques and finishes for great painting and happy customers.

After successfully completing a combination of classroom and on-the-job training, together with group discussions and written tests, graduates were appointed as official painters for the Dulux Home Painting Service. The project enabled 200 people to support themselves and their families through their newly-acquired skills.
